A mob broke into a Pakistani police station and burnt a man accused of desecrating the Quran alive, police said Saturday, in the latest violence focusing attention on the country’s blasphemy laws.

The man was a traveller and had spent Thursday night at the mosque, said Maulvi Memon, the imam in the southern village of Seeta in Sindh province. The charred remains of the Quran were found the next morning.

“He was alone in the mosque during the night,” Memon said. “There was no one else there to do this terrible thing.” Villagers beat the man then handed him over to police. A few hours later, a crowd of around 200 stormed the police station, dragged the man out and set him on fire, said Usman Ghani, the senior superintendent of police in Dadu district.

Ghani said around 30 people had been arrested for the murder and seven police detained for negligence.

At least 53 people have been killed in Pakistan since 1990 after being accused of blasphemy, according to the Center for Research and Security Studies, and accusations are becoming more frequent.

Blasphemy in Pakistan is punishable by death but it is not specifically defined by law. During court cases, lawyers often do not wish to repeat evidence against the accused for fear of being blasphemous themselves.

People have been arrested for just discussing or writing about Islam, making mistakes in homework or not joining protests against a film insulting Islam. In some cases, the accusers have had financial disputes with those who are accused.

Another one bites the dust

A Swedish missionary and charity worker in Lahore, Pakistan was shot on December 3, 2012.  Sister Birgeeta Almeby, age 70,  was attacked outside her residence and rushed to the Jinnan hospital. Almeby had lived and worked in Pakistan for nearly forty years, doing outreach and literacy work with “the least of these” in God’s name. Pakistan, Mali, Nigeria, Egypt, Libya, and Sudan, to name a few, are extremely dangerous places for Christians. Muslims often take “justice” into their own hands, following the commands of their faith to eradicate unbelievers. In Pakistan, like Iran and many others, it’s not even against the law to discriminate against Christians and other minorities. In fact,  the apartheid and ethnic cleansing practices ARE the law.

Burned Alive in Pakistan

Ghulam Abbas, before dying.

Ghulam Abbas, before dying.

Ghulam Abbas, a mentally ill man, was burned alive in the streets of Pakistan, one of many during 2012. His crime? Allegedly blasphemy, according to the Muslim religious leaders who denounced him over loudspeakers. Were they charged with incitement to Islamophobia, causing enraged violence against a Muslim man? Oh, no, what am I thinking? Abbas was attacked by a horde of savages. He had no idea what was going on, according to local police.

Can you imagine if the Jews or Americans did this in Guantanamo?

This is no joke, people. These are real human beings.

As it stands, there were dozens of books, movies, and other cultural products made about Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib, a tiny percentage of it covering the unimaginable violence throughout Cuban prison systems or the 30 000 death penalties, not to mention eye-gougings, acid-dissolvements, tongue excisions, and more that defined the real Abu Ghraib.

All the blood libel about Jews, which is all libel, when we have real acts like these which are not libel but the truth?

All this “Nazi” accusation about Israel, all the cartoons drenched in Jew hate, insinuating that “zionists” have despicable morals and desecrate bodies, and total silence about this routine action of the Taliban? Michael Moore dares defend the Iraqi insurgency and others defend the Taliban. This is the Taliban. There is no crime that could fit this particular desecration of dignity: we should not be looking at humans like this even if they were serial killers. But we all know the biggest crime of these victims is spying, apostasy, or blasphemy.

When will the leftists ever stop looking at Israel’s crimes of self defense and speak out against the most barbaric indignities humans have ever suffered at the hands of the Taliban?

The terrible truth that I now admit is that as a leftist, I didn’t even know this existed. I didn’t know who Saddam Hussein even was, or that he was actually not “the most demonized” man in the world.
